TBR | April 2021

Hello fellow bookworms!

Another month is gone, and now it’s time for April – and, of course, for a new TBR list! I usually pick ten or twelve books to read each month, but today I planned things a bit differently. I’m currently in a reading slump and I feel like it’s here to stay for a while, so I decided to slow down a bit and pick only six books to read in April.

It’s funny how something so simple such as picking fewer books was such a challenging task! My to-read book list is never ending, and there are so many books I still want to read but unfortunately time does not stretch! So here are the six books I picked for this next month:

  1. A Cloud Can Weigh a Million Pounds by A.D. Stephenson
    A Cloud Can Weigh a Million Pounds     was kindly sent to me by the author to review in exchange for an honest review. I’m very excited to read this book soon and I’ll be sharing my thoughts afterwards. I’m craving a bit of science fiction, so this will be a treat!
  2. Eeny Meeny by M.J. Arlidge
    My lovely friend Marina was kind enough to lend me this book! I’ve been eyeing it for a while and when I discovered she had it, I immediately asked her if she could borrow it. This is the first book of a mystery/thriller detective series, and I have high hopes because it’s a very popular book here in Portugal. Detective books are not my favorite, but I’m willing to try this one… fingers crossed!
  3. A Court of Wings and Ruin (A Court of Thorns and Roses #3) by Sarah J. Maas
    I’m loving this series so much and I’m hoping I’ll get to the last book in the next few months! The end of the second book was so good and it got me very curious to know what would happen next. I decided to read only the third book from this series this month because it’s HUGE – but hopefully I can finish it until the end of April. I have a great feeling about this one!
  4. The Midnight Library by Matt Haig
    I’ve been wanting to read this book for a while and the time has finally come! I keep seeing this book everywhere and even though there are some mixed reviews here and there, I still want to give it a fair shot and have my own opinion on it. Let’s see what the hype is all about!
  5. Horrid by Katrina Leno
    Something about this book keeps calling me, and now it’s time to answer! I don’t know much about Horrid, but I really want to go into this book without knowing too much. Let’s hope it’s good!
  6. Namesake (Fable #2) by Adrienne Young
    One of my most anticipated reads for this year! I loved Fable so much and I can’t wait to read the conclusion to this story! I’m always in the mood for a good pirate book, and Fable was exactly that – here’s the full review if you’re curious. I’ve read some Namesake reviews online and so far people are really liking it, so that’s good! And seriously… how gorgeous are the covers?

And that’s it! This is my TBR for the month of April! It feels weird to cut my TBR to an half, but I feel like it’s necessary just because I’m not as motivated to read like I usually am.

Hello everyone!

Another month, another TBR! February was such a weird reading month for me because I got stuck in four or five books I was disliking, so I felt unmotivated to finish them. Fortunately I was able to finish all of them except one: The Starless Sea. I’m so tired of this book but I don’t want to DNF it! I decided I would read it slowly and I decided I wouldn’t put it here because I know it would impact my motivation. So while I’m reading these books, I’ll be trying to finish The Starless Sea in the background.

I’ve bought a LOT of books these last two months, so I really want to focus my attention on them! They’re mostly thrillers/mysteries and fantasy books as you can see below.

And just a quick reminder: I’m a mood reader so I always use TBR lists as a guide, so if I’m not in the mood to read any of these, I’ll read another one that is not in the list. Without further ado, here are the books I’m planning to read in March:

  6. Away with the Penguins by Hazel Prior
  7. The House in the Cerulean Sea by T.J. Klune
  8. The Southern’s Book Club’s to Slaying Vampires by Grady Hendrix
  9. Mexican Gothic by Silvia Moreno-Garcia
  10. Crazy Stupid Bromance (Bromance Book Club #3) by Lyssa Kay Adams
  11. Lore by Alexandra Bracken
  12. The Stolen Kingdom by Jilllian Boehme

The books I’m most excited for are The Liar’s Daughter, Away with the Penguins, The House in the Cerulean Sea and Lore! Passenger is part of a duology and will be buddy reading it with a friend. I really want to read the next two books of A Court of Thorns and Roses series this next month – I only read the first two and I fell in love with the series! I also want to start the A Curse So Dark and Lonely series this month and I’m super excited for it! I know this series has some mixed reviews, but I want to go about it with an open mind! I decided only to include the first book for now and I’ll see how it goes from there.

Hello readers, I hope you’re doing well!

Today I’m bringing you my reading plans for the month of February. I know February is the perfect month for romance books because of Valentine’s day, but I’m not a big seasonal reader. I think the only love story you’ll find in this list are the books from the series A Court of Thorns and Roses. I usually just read what I feel like reading at the moment and this month is no exception.

And I swear on my life I didn’t do it on purpose, but the color scheme of my February TBR is looking good! Isn’t it nice when everything just works out? Anyways, here are the books I’m planning to read in February:

  2. Memoirs of a Geisha by Arthur Golden
  3. A Man Called Ove by Fredrik Backman
  4. Split Second (The Pivot Point #2) by Kasie West

So as you can see, this month I have a mix of very different books. I’ve wanted to read some of them for a while but also added – surprise, surprise – a new release! I’ve got The Wife Upstairs to read and two other books I keep seeing everywhere: Pine and Away with the Penguins!

Another cool thing that happened in January is that I got my first ever NetGalley audiobook: the book Of Wicked Blood! I never had the chance to read an audiobook from NetGalley, so I’m very excited to experience this for the first time.

The rest of the books are books I’ve wanted to read for a while. Two of the books were in my previous TBR list – Split Second and The Starless Sea -, and I’m putting them here again because I can’t seem to motivate myself to finish them, but I hope I’ll do it this month 🙂

New year, new me! I want to start this year off with a great selection of books I’m excited about! As you can probably see, most of the books with the exception of Layla and The Project are books that were published a long time ago. The reason for my choices is that I want to focus on series I always wanted to read but I never got the chance to read. The Project is an arc I got from NetGalley that is going to be published in February. So these are the books I picked for my January TBR:

Books I want to finish before 2021

I always get inspired by new beginnings and fresh starts, so naturally one of my favorite times of the year is New Year’s Eve. Before you ask: yes, I’m the kind of person who likes to make plans for the year and define goals – and actually stick to them throughout the year. But for that to happen, I always try to take care of my unfinished business before going into the new year so I can start it with a clean slate. 

I have the habit of reading more than one book at a time because I like to pick up what I’m feeling at the moment. If I’m in the mood for a romance, I can pick up the romance novel I’m currently reading. If I’m craving mystery, I can easily pick up my current mystery book. This is how I do my reading and it always worked well for me. But as a consequence of this constant rotation, I’m currently reading 5 books at the same time. My hope is to finish them before 2021 so I can create a fresh TBR list and focus only on what I want to read next. 

There is just a teeny tiny problem. I’m going through a reading slump right now so I don’t know if I will finish all the books before the beginning of the year. But hey, I’m always up for a challenge and I still have hope I can do this!

Without further ado, here are the 5 books I need to finish before 2021:

  1. Vox by Christina Dalcher (219 pages left)
    I’m about a third of the book right now and I’m not very impressed. I wanted to read it because I thought the concept was really cool but I don’t like where the story is going. We will have to wait and see, but I’m not super motivated to finish this.
  1. Fable (#1) by Adrienne Young (278 pages left)
    I’m liking Fable and I think I can finish this book easily. I haven’t gone too far yet, but I will say it’s probably the most interesting book from this selection!
  2. Without Merit by Colleen Hoover (54 pages left)
    I’m confident I will finish this today. I’m really enjoying this and I’m even more motivated to finish it because I know I’m almost done with it!
  3. The Whisper Man by Alex North (344 pages left)
    I only read about 10% of this book but I’m really enjoying it. This is the book I made the least progress, but I’m not too worried about it because I’m liking it so far.
  4. Imaginary Friend by Stephen Chbosky (547 pages left)
    Last but not least… this book. Oh boy, this book. This is the one that I’m the most worried about! I’ve been reading this book for months now and I’m not even halfway through it. It’s not that I’m disliking the story, but the book is SO big that it feels like it will never end – it’s almost 900 pages! I feel demotivated just by looking at it. The story itself is really good and I’m enjoying it a lot, so I want to make an effort and finish it before 2021. Wish me luck!

It’s not a big list, but since I’m on a reading slump I know this will be a challenge. Like I said, I’m still hopeful I’ll finish all of these but I will be more impressed with myself if I finally finish Imaginary Friend. Wish me luck!

November is right around the corner and I’m very excited to switch up my TBR! This time I decided not to use my TBR jar to pick the next books for a special reason. The first round of the Goodreads Choice Awards is here and I thought this would be the perfect opportunity to catch up with this year’s releases. Some of them I’ve been wanting to read for a while but never got to it, and others I just found out and got curious. With the exception of three books – The Girl Who Drank the Moon, Red Hood and The Game -, all of the picks are nominees for the award. So these are the books I picked for my November TBR:

The only book that was not published this year was The Girl Who Drank the Moon, unlike all the other picks. As you can see, there is a lot of variety with genres. We have romance, thriller/horror, fantasy, contemporary, adult, young adult and middle grade. This is great because this way I have different options if I’m in the mood to read a specific genre.

Even though I usually decide what to read next after finishing a book, I love to make a generic plan for what I want to read in the next few weeks. And it’s not set in stone that I will read all of these books in the next few weeks, but it’s really fun for me to create these “to-be-read” book lists. I really want to start sharing my plans here with you, so here is my first ever TBR list post!

The Fall season is my favorite time of the year! I just love how the weather starts to cool down and I start to get cozy with blankets and drinking hot beverages – especially lattes and yes, I’m that kind of girl. So I decided my next “to-be-read” book pile needed to be perfect for this time of the year. I wanted the books to be mostly thrillers and darker novels to fit this mood.

Like I usually do, I decided to pick up the books I want to read next with the help of my TBR jar – you can see the categories by clicking on the tab above labeled “TBR”. So here are the twelve books I’m looking forward to reading according to the categories that were randomly chosen!

There are some great books here that I really want to pick up in the near future. I tried to pick different styles, so I have some contemporary books, fantasy books, thrillers and romances here. And they all have a common element: darkness. I’m just really in the mood for dark novels right now because I think it pairs well with this time of the year. Time to grab my latte, blanket and get my geek on!
