TBR | July 2024

Hello friends!

As always, I hope you’re doing well! I heard you want to know all about my reading plans for July – so I’m here to deliver! I’m very excited about today’s list because it’s full of books I’m truly excited to read. But I’ll tell you all about it in a sec!

If you read my post on How I Create My Monthly TBR Lists, you already know my magical formula to create a reading month. This is the formula I’m planning on keeping for the new year, so the goal is to read 2 paperbacks, 2 audiobooks, 1 ebook, and 1 manga volume.

Well, I do have to give you a small disclaimer before I show you the books! I usually don’t do this often, but since the last month was pretty slow reading wise, I decided to put some of the books I planned on reading last month here. Meaning, you probably have seen some of these books on my last TBR lists.

So without further ado, here are the books I’m planning on reading:

This is the list I have to share with you today! Let’s take a closer look:

1. Death Note, Vol. 3: Confluence by Tsugumi Ohba

This month I’ll be continuing the “Death Note” series! I started this manga series in May and in July I’ll be reading the 3rd book. I’m definitely enjoying the manga version so far. I’m getting more and more inclined to watch the manga one day. I’m curious to see where the story is going!

Synopsis

“Light Yagami is an ace student with great prospects–and he’s bored out of his mind. But all that changes when he finds the Death Note, a notebook dropped by a rogue Shinigami death god. Any human whose name is written in the notebook dies, and now Light has vowed to use the power of the Death Note to rid the world of evil. But when criminals begin dropping dead, the authorities send the legendary detective L to track down the killer. With L hot on his heels, will Light lose sight of his noble goal…or his life?”

2. The Dating Drama (My K-Drama Life #2) by Sara Martin

I started this duology in May, but I never finished it so I’ll be continuing it in July. From what I’ve read so far, the story seems a little weird, but I still want to give it a fair chance! Also, I’ve noticed this was originally a duology, but recently it became a trilogy – I’m not sure if I’ll read the third book yet, to be honest. For now, my focus is to read the second book in July

Synopsis

“Chloe Gibson’s dating the man of her dreams-a talented and gorgeous K-drama star. But there’s just one catch: they have to keep their relationship secret. This isn’t the ideal romance Chloe used to fantasise about.
Fortunately, there’s a glimmer of hope on the horizon. The couple have an agreement that after one year of dating in secret, they’ll front up to the South Korean media and go public with their relationship.
But the year won’t be smooth sailing.
When a mysterious package shows up, Chloe’s life is thrust into chaos. Soon she’s being plagued by creepy anonymous messages and the unsettling feeling she’s being followed.
The question is no longer whether the relationship will survive, it’s will Chloe survive?”

3. The Myth of Normal by Gabor Maté

Anothe book I would like to finish in July is “The Myth of Normal”. This was a book recommended to me a few months ago by my therapist! I decided not to look too much into it before picking it up, but I’m sure this will be a very interesting read. I’m very excited to see what this is all about, so I’ll be listening to this book in the audiobook format.

Synopsis

“In this revolutionary book, renowned physician Gabor Maté eloquently dissects how in Western countries that pride themselves on their healthcare systems, chronic illness and general ill health are on the rise. Nearly 70 percent of Americans are on at least one prescription drug; more than half take two. In Canada, every fifth person has high blood pressure. In Europe, hypertension is diagnosed in more than 30 percent of the population. And everywhere, adolescent mental illness is on the rise. So what is really “normal” when it comes to health?
Over four decades of clinical experience, Maté has come to recognize the prevailing understanding of “normal” as false, neglecting the roles that trauma and stress, and the pressures of modern-day living, exert on our bodies and our minds at the expense of good health. For all our expertise and technological sophistication, Western medicine often fails to treat the whole person, ignoring how today’s culture stresses the body, burdens the immune system, and undermines emotional balance. Now Maté brings his perspective to the great untangling of common myths about what makes us sick, connects the dots between the maladies of individuals and the declining soundness of society—and offers a compassionate guide for health and healing. Co-written with his son Daniel, The Myth of Normal is Maté’s most ambitious and urgent book yet.”

4. The Breakup Tour by Emily Wibberley and Austin Siegemund-Broka

I haven’t even start this one yet – but I’m very curious about it! From the moment I discovered this book was going to be released this year, I immediately added it to my TBR list. It seems so Taylor Swift coded – so right up my alley! I’m excited to read this on my e-reader, so I’ll be starting this (finally) in July.

Synopsis

“A rising-star musician has a second chance at love with an old flame she remembers all too well in this swoony romance from the acclaimed authors of The Roughest Draft.
Riley Wynn went from a promising singer-songwriter to a superstar overnight, thanks to her breakup song concept album and its unforgettable lead single. When Riley’s ex-husband claims the hit song is about him, she does something she hasn’t in ten years and calls Max Harcourt, her college boyfriend and the real inspiration for the song of the summer.
Max hasn’t spoken to Riley since their relationship ended. He’s content with managing the retirement home his family owns, but it’s not the life he dreamed of filled with music. When Riley asks him to go public as her songwriting muse, he agrees on one he’ll join her in her band on tour.
As they perform across the country, Max and Riley start to realize that while they hit some wrong notes in the past, their future could hold incredible things. And their rekindled relationship will either last forever or go down in flames.”

5. The Viscount Who Loved Me (Bridgertons #2) by Julia Quinn

I’m a little demotivated to read this book if I’m being honest. I love the Bridgertons, but the books so far are not what I’ve expected. And from what I’ve read from this book so far… it seems a little boring. I want to continue this series either way, because I’m excited to read Anthony’s story, and I’m also curious about Colin and Penelope – and before you ask, of course I’m very much obsessed with the new season of the show! If you never watched it… what are you doing?! Go watch it ASAP!

Synopsis

“1814 promises to be another eventful season, but not, This Author believes, for Anthony Bridgerton, London’s most elusive bachelor, who has shown no indication that he plans to marry. And in all truth, why should he? When it comes to playing the consummate rake, nobody does it better… —Lady Whistledown’s Society Papers, April 1814
Anthony Bridgerton needs a wife.
Having spent his twenties in a rakish pursuit of pleasure, he knows it’s high time he settled down and ensured the continuation of the Bridgerton line.
Edwina Sheffield is considered the most beautiful debutante of the current season. She is also sweet, innocent and eminently biddable – Anthony is sure she’ll make a perfectly acceptable wife and vows to make her his.
The only obstacle in his way is Edwina’s older sister, Kate. Kate is determined to do all she can to allow her sister the chance to marry for love rather than convenience. And the roguish viscount is beginning to think he may have met his match in Kate’s keen wit and sharp tongue. Until, that is, he makes the mistake of kissing her…”

6. The Fine Print (Dreamland Billionaires #1) by Lauren Asher

Another book I started last month, but haven’t finished yet. I’ll be picking up right where I left on the “Dreamland Billionaires” series! This seems like a great option for me to since I love romances and I read them easily. I heard good things about this series, so I’m excited to be part of the hype!

Synopsis

“Rowan
I’m in the business of creating fairy tales.
Theme parks. Production companies. Five-star hotels.
Everything could be all mine if I renovated Dreamland.
My initial idea of hiring Zahra was good in theory, but then I kissed her.
Things spiraled out of control once I texted her using an alias.
By the time I realized where I went wrong, it was too late.
People like me don’t get happy endings.
Not when we’re destined to ruin them.
Zahra
After submitting a drunk proposal criticizing Dreamland’s most expensive ride, I should have been fired.
Instead, Rowan Kane offered me a dream job.
The catch? I had to work for the most difficult boss I’d ever met.
Rowan was rude and completely off-limits, but my heart didn’t care.
At least not until I discovered his secret.
It was time to teach the billionaire that money couldn’t fix everything.
Especially not us.”

Aaaand there you have it friends, my TBR list! As usual, I hope you liked this post! Let me know if you have any recommendations for me. You know I’m always grateful for those!

Thank you for reading, have a great day!

  2. I find the Bridgerton books and the Bridgerton show to be 2 totally different experiences. I enjoy both, but they are so different from each other – my hubby asked me about a plot point from the show and I was like “I have no idea where they’re taking this, because it’s so far removed from the book I read 🤣” but I still thoroughly enjoy it! That said, some of the books are def better/easier to read than others 🙃

    1. I agree 100%, it’s so different! For me personally, I’m struggling a little with the books because I don’t find them as amusing ahah! But it’s good to know that it depends on the book because I definitely want to keep going!
